Canon Iteration Explanation:

This Leonardo Hamato lived through an inherently bad alternative timeline where the Krang were able to essentially take over the earth. The Krang were granted freedom from their prison dimension based on his own mistake. He's been fighting in an unwinnable war since he was a teenager. He's a forty year old who is extremely tired.

❥ Folkmore Roles & Attributes

Skills:
-Bilingual: Speaks Spanish fairly fluently. Interested in learning other languages if given a shot.

-Strategic Mind: Leo has the ability to plan a few steps ahead of others once he’s gathered enough information about people's strengths and weaknesses. He tends to socially engineer situations where he can nudge other characters in place to make his grand plans unfold just how he wants them to. Even if it isn’t very “nice”, he will do what he has to in order to make a plan work how he wants it to.

-Kenjutsu: Leo was trained in a more classically Japanese swordsmanship. He can handle a single blade or two blades fairly easily. He tends to improvise and use his blade a bit more bluntly than intended.

-Ninjutsu training: stealth, some disguise abilities, improvisation, and the penchant for smoke bombs. He has a long way to go due to their fathers hesitation to teach them, but Leo is fairly quick to grasp what he does learn. He has a natural knack for ninjutsu. Trained as a ninja since his early teens. At this age he is a refined ninja, still able to sneak even with his size and metal arm.

-Mutation Bonus: He was made as a weapon by Baron Draxum with the intent to wipe out humanity. So, Leo is stronger, faster and more durable than an average human. Leo regularly takes on fights with other mutants thrice his size. The turtles are incredibly hard to actually kill or seriously wound. Leonardo has been an active leader of the rebellion since he was a teenager-young adult. He's lost a limb and still persisted into his forties.

-Prosthetic arm: Over sized prosthetic arm that has no special capabilities to speak of. It is just a limb for Leo. Not really a skill, but it offers him an advantage given its a big metal arm.


Canon Abilities:

-Hamato Ninpo: As a member of the Hamato clan, Leo can easily tap into his clan's generational magic. When holding an object in his hand, he can use it as a base to generate a magical version of his katana. The object can range from a garden spade to a rock, just something he can grasp onto to manifest an energy katana around. Leo can also use his thrown blade as a focus point to do teleportation. He can take himself or anyone else in contact with the blade he's holding onto to the location of the thrown blade. It covers a fairly short range. For my own personal RPer limitation, I write it as Leo needing to see where he wants his blade to go.


-Portal creation: Leo can create a portal to a different location. Both people and objects can go between portal spaces. The portals can take him from one point of New York to the Hidden City fairly easily. I personally put the limitation that he needs to be able to mentally picture the location he wants to go to go there. The show never specifies how it works beyond what the plot needs. Obvious nerf of Leo being unable to open a portal home in any regard.

He's lost connection with his family magic as of the last few years. He is unable to access ninpo or the magic he once had. Leonardo cannot create portals or do any kind of magic.


Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: The Hamato family mon will appear behind Leonardo's head when he's feeling particularly emotional. It will flicker between various colors to represent his family members. He won't manifest wings unfortunately, an imprint of wings will glow on his shell, but never become genuine wings.
Role Reasoning:
I am picking this role for two factors: The irony of a dead man being an angel themed role, and how much he wouldn't like the idea of being a Legend. Leonardo doesn't view himself as a hero, even with other characters insistences on that fact. He doesn't think he deserves the weighty implications that come with angelic like imagery. I would like to see him actively explore what Legend means to him. Being a legend means he could take off his emotional mask and let himself be vulnerable for the first time in several decades. I want Leonardo to be able to grow past his trauma, and his previous role as war hero into something he would actually enjoy. Into someone he wants to genuinely be. I want to challenge him to actually live, instead of the easy path of self sacrificial death. To die a martyr is easy, to live afterwards is all that much harder.

❥ What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?

The slow gradual loss of his family. Each death brought on a new horror Leonardo never wanted. Something he couldn't fix or stop. His father, Draxum, Casey (Sr), Raph, and Donnie. These are people he loved (liked in Draxum's case), desperately wanted to protect with his own life. Yet, he was the one to live while they died.

There was nothing Leo could do. His family shrunk as the rebellion lost ground. As people he knew and trusted were ripped away from him. He learned to wear an emotional mask to avoid others knowing how much he hurt. He needed to keep it together for everyone's benefit. His natural good humor, strategic mind and compassion were all there, but were filtered through a need to protect himself and others.

He uses his sense of confidence to carry him through life and his goals, but doesn't allow himself the space to exist.

❥ What are your characters dreams and nightmares? Do you believe they are more likely to obtain one rather than the other? Leonardo's biggest dream was an end to the war against the Krang. He had fought valiantly throughout his life to make this dream come true. He dreamed of the world he grew up in coming back and being even better than before. Humanity and yokai living together safely on the surface without the threat of the Krang assimilating everything. He dreamed they could eventually recover those taken by the krang, or put them out of their misery. He had a lot of big dreams, ones he grasped onto desperately whilst struggling against the war.

He also dreamed Casey Jones (jr) would have a chance to grow up in the world Leonardo remembered. Have a real chance to be a normal teenager with normal problems. Unfortunately, he would never get to see any of that come to fruition.

His nightmares instead came true. The krang won the war, and killed everyone he loved and wiped out all living beings on earth. There was no victory to be had. The only dream he had after that realization was one where sending Casey back to the past would correct Leonardo's own mistakes.

❥ What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise.

Even if Leonardo himself wouldn't verbalize this; he most certainly struggles with his sense of guilt. He wallows in guilt, having learned his mistakes come at a great cost. He has no room to make mistakes given his position of power in the rebellion. Any mistake he makes is something he over analyzes to an incredibly high degree. He doesn't feel like he can be forgiven and course corrects a bit too much.

Others making mistakes are normal and acceptable. If it is something he did, even purely by accident, Leonardo will double down on doing things perfectly. Leonardo is convinced he doesn't deserve the same grace or kindness he extends to others. A commander should know what he's doing at all times. His own high expectations of himself only adds to his immense guilt and inability to grow. He masks this feeling with humor and deflection. He would prefer to take care of others and drown in his own immense guilt.


❥ What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already? Leonardo has sacrificed many things in his lifetime, far more than any normal person would. The promise of a greater good, a better future, a real chance at life is what pushed him along to keep making these sacrifices.

He has given up his own sense of self for the greater good. He has had to make tough calls in order to keep the rebellion going be it abandoning old bases or tactical retreats that put them in far worse places strategically for people's safety. He had to choose between saving one person or choosing the entirety of the rebellion as a whole.

He willingly chose to sacrifice his life in order to ensure Casey got to the future in one piece. If given the chance to do that over, he would still give up his life to ensure his adopted son had a chance at a real life.

His whole life has become a continual sacrifice. The chance to grow past it is not something he ever thought he would have.

❥ What is a time where your character failed drastically at something and how did it impact them, what did they do about it? His greatest failure is losing the key. He goofed around and it fell into the Foot Clan's possession. Thus leading to the Krang being released from their dimension.

That single mistake is what essentially changed the course of history in his timeline. What caused so many people to die. Leonardo will never forgive himself for this failure. His sense of guilt and urge to fix what he can lead him to taking up mantle as one of the leaders of the rebellion against the krang. Commander Leonardo was a title he wore in place of what he was before. With time, it became all he really was to the people outside of his family.

He strives to make up for that failure until his death and never quite gets there.
